A long time ago, decades before a game called Star Wars Battlefront there was Super Star Wars on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The side-scrolling platformer was released in 1992 and became one of the console’s most loved 16-bit cartridge games of all time. Now, in 2015 just in time for the new The Force Awakens movie, Sony has picked up where Nintendo left off and will be bringing Super Star Wars back for a new generation!
That’s right, Sony has announced on its PlayStation blog that Super Star Wars will strike back and is available to buy digitally for PS4 and PS Vita and it will not only be a true emulation of the classic SNES game which features playable likenesses of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewie but will also be “enhanced for PS4 with new save features, leaderboards, trophies, and updated display and controller options.”

As well as featuring the veteran heroes and villains from the original trilogy (as well as some unheard of and creatively liberal alien creatures!) famous weapons and vehicles are also available to use in the exciting gameplay including Luke’s lightsaber and Han’s blaster and in later levels players can even pilot an X-Wing to recreate the legendary Death Star ‘trench run’ scene while attempting to evade Lord Vader who is in pursuit in his TIE fighter.
Let the nostalgia flow through you by treating yourself to Super Star Wars – even if it’s just to play while Battlefront installs. The graphics may not look much but she’s still got it where it counts!
