Sony XPERIA 2011 phones get the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update

Sony Ericsson android smartphone using customers can finally rejoice as Sony has announced that they will start to run a mass update to all of its XPERIA 2011 handsets from today to receive the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update to their smartphones.

The update will be coming in a OTA download or for those who are already on the ICS 4.0 update but those on Gingerbread will need to update on a PC with the of use the Sony XPERIA desktop suite to run the change.

Now one thing to note is that the update has gone live for non-branded vanilla XPERIA smartphones, so if you have a network branded Xperia Arc S, then you will possibly have to wait a little while longer as the network adds its own tweaks and features.

The Sony Mobile  blog states that:

“Starting from this week, Xperia arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V, Xperia mini, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Xperia ray will receive a new Ice Cream Sandwich software update that comes with bug fixes, performance tweaks and other improvements,”

The Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update will not be coming to the Xperia mini pro, Xperia neo L and Live with Walkman this week though with sony has confirming that the update will come in the “next few weeks”.

Users will be receiving the a message on their phone about the update when it is available.
