Earlier in the week Sony released the long awaited Sony Xperia Z Ultra, a mammoth smartphone after months of speculation and leaked information. Whilst the company has only just revealed its fastest, biggest and best Android phone to date, rumours suggest something better is coming.
Online whispers suggest that Sony is now looking to take a step into the “massive camera” area that both Nokia and Samsung are currently exploring (see Nokia EOS rumours and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom) as it’s said that Sony is currently working on another flagship smartphone called the Sony Xperia i1.
The Xperia i1 has been seen on a Brazilian tech website called TechTudo where an image shows a larger handset that will sit between the Xperia T and the Xperia Z Ultra 6, looking very similar to the Xperia Z.
The real selling point of the rumoured i1 is that the handset will reportedly have a huge 20MP camera on the back, with a special camera lens. If true, the rumoured phone will go into direct competition with Samsung and Nokia’s latest phones.
The recently launched Samsung Galaxy Zoom is more of a camera than a smartphone with its size and layout altered to accommodate the 16x optical zoom and large lense attached. Nokia however is looking to the EOS or Lumia 1020 and a 41MP rear camera sensor.
There is little in the way of facts surrounding a new Xperia Android phone from Sony, but with the current range of Xperia handsets getting Sony quite a lot of praise they may be looking to compete with Samsung and Nokia in the more specialist cameraphone field.
