With the Consumer Electronics Show just around the corner, I’m sure it will come as no surprise that the rumour mill has started turning, and again more news has filtered onto the tech blogs suggesting that Sony are planning on announcing at least two new products at some point in the near future, and this will most probably be at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.
The latest leak identifies two new Sony Xperia devices, the Z4 Compact and also the Z4 Ultra; at the moment there is no information about an Xperia Z4 (although I’m sure that might change soon). The Xperia Z4 Compact is alleged to feature a 4.7-inch with a 1080p resolution and is expected to ship with the new Snapdragon 810 chipset complete with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Apparently the Android powered smartphone will also be packing a 20.7MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera. Obviously as you’d expect now with the top end Sony handsets, it will be water and dust proof (IP 68 certification), have Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, LTE Cat 9, new wireless charging support and an impressive 3,000mAh battery.
Moving on to the Xperia Z4 Ultra, the phablet device is rumoured to have a 6.44-inch display with a a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels, a quad-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16MP camera, and possible a 3,500-4000 mAh battery.
As mentioned, with CES 2015 not too far away, and with other rumours suggesting that Samsung might unveil the successor to the Galaxy S5, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony wants a bit of the spot light themselves. But, as ever, while rumours have turned out to be fairly accurate in the past, I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether devices actually make an appearance – we hope so, but until then take it with a pinch of salt.
