Spotify for Android Gets a Redesign with ICS Support and Social Experience

Spotify has announced it has relaunched the popular streaming music app today for the Android platform on smartphones and tablets, promising a “new box of tricks” under the hood and bringing great benefits to those gadget owners who have been lucky enough to upgrade to the latest Google OS; edition 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The top-to-bottom refresh presents a new look interface and a slicker, faster Spotify service complimented by the improved capabilities of the Android ICS update. The new Spotify features an all-new slide out navigation and delivers a deeper social experience with friend’s profiles and sharable playlists, as well as the same crossfade between album tracks and gapless playback which was recently introduced to the desktop app for PCs.

Artist and album images are now presented in high resolution on the Android app and sound quality becomes “extreme” in 320kbps, with Last.fm scrobbling added for better auto-customisation of suggested stations and tunes and saving what you listen to on your Last.fm profile. There’s also a handy new widget you can add to your homescreen to control your playback outside of the main app.

To get the best of the newly rebuilt Spotify for Android you will need to have updated your system to version 4.0 ICS and be a paying subscriber to Spotify’s premium service (£9.99 per month), and the app can be downloaded and upgraded through Google Play for free.
