Spotify users of the desktop and laptop varieties have been blessed with a host of new features today, as the company has overhauled its desktop apps for Windows and Mac.
The update brings a key new feature that is called Radio Stations. These are based on playlists made by you and other users, and Spotify will suggest them to you based on the genres and artists that you like to listen to. It’s a pretty cool way of listening to your favourite artist on shuffle, we’ve found.
You can also create your own new radio station when listening to a playlist or album. Other Spotify users can then find and listen to your radio station.
Another cool feature is instant search, which works in a similar way to Google. As you type your search into the bar Spotify will update results for artists, tracks, playlists and albums. This is great for saving time, as most of the time it will find what you’re looking for with just the first few letters typed in.
Spotify is also branching out with sharing, allowing users to now embed a song or playlist into a website or forum with ease. A new ‘copy embed code’ can now be found in the menu when you right click on an album, which then automatically gives you the coding you need to put that song onto a website.
When Spotify announced the new play button not so long ago, we discovered that it had partnered with huge blogging site Tumblr to make posting music from Spotify to a Tumblr blog super easy. With the new update users can post a song, album or playlist directly to their Tumblr blog using the share options.
You can also share to Twitter, where you’ll have more characters left to type your own opinion, as Spotify now uses its own url shortening service ‘spoti.fi’.
The update is out now for Windows and Mac Spotify users, so you should be notified of the update when you next open the program.
