Spotify Now Available On Windows Phone 7

Spotify announced today that its music streaming software is now available for Windows Phone 7 and can be downloaded as a free app from the marketplace now.

You will need a Spotify Premium or Ultimate account to actually access any music, but if you’ve got one, or are planning to get one, you can now enjoy 13 million tracks from the Swedish streaming giant for just £4.99/£9.99 a month.

The Spotify app has been available for quite a while on iPhone, Android and Symbian and allows you to stream tracks as well download tracks for when you’re out of 3G coverage or not in range of a Wi-Fi network.

Although Spotify is only a small team, the Swedish company has made the wait worthwhile by giving the UI a decent lick of paint as it now sports a completely new look in tune with WP7 Mango.

Spotify’s developers were able to add some features which take full advantage of Windows Phone’s Metro interface, that platforms like Android and iOS can’t handle.

For example, the new Spotify app on Windows Phone lets you “pin” playlists to your home screen tiles for easy access. There’s no need to open the app and cycle through the menus to find what you want, just tap a playlist tile to start listening.

You can also now swipe back and forth in true Windows Phone fashion which allows users to navigate between new releases, playlists, friends feeds and so on.

The app is available for all handsets that are running the newly released Mango 7.5 – but there are no plans to bring the app to lower versions of the OS.

The Spotify app is now available on every major smartphone platform, with BlackBerry support added recently and now the Windows Phone app is the last piece of the puzzle to slot into place.
