With Nintendo’s recent revelation that they will NOT be supporting mobile devices as a new platform for gaming, you can only think that this may be a massive mistake from the company.
One game developer who shares that view is Square-Enix, who are in the process of bringing some timeless classics to the Android platform.
Square-Enix already have some 30 apps on iOS and they are looking to push some goodies to the Android community, with none other than one of my all time favourite games Chrono Trigger and many more. This an old-school RPG that made its debut on the SNES.
Also on the list we have Dragon Quest: Monsters and Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest, a long forgotten FF game that came out for the SNES.
Square-Enix jumped with both feet into alternative gaming platforms years ago, with games like Song Summoner making an appearance on older non-touch iPods.
It was a novelty really, and nothing more than a gimmick on top of a classic Square-esque turn-based strategy game. Nintendo needs to wake up and realise that smartphone platforms aren’t where classic franchises go to die, but a way to revive old clasics and give them a new lease of life for the mass market.
