Star Trek will once again hit the small screen in January 2017, boldly going where no trek series has gone before – online, with brand new, weekly streaming adventures exclusive to CBS All Access.
At a CBS event yesterday came the exciting reveal of the new Star Trek show’s logo complete with teaser trailer which boasts “New Crews. New Villains. New Heroes. New Worlds” – as well as a familiar theme song.
The series is said to bridge the period between Star Trek VI and Star Trek: The Next Generation but the stylish title font and the nostalgia stirring synth music both throw back to the original sixties Star Trek series captained by James T. Kirk. Also it’s interesting to note that, at this point at least, the show seems to simply be called Star Trek.As we’ve commented before when discussing this “fascinating” new addition to the Star Trek universe, the new show will be based in the Prime Timeline, meaning the current movie series that was embarked upon by J.J. Abrams in 2009 and which starred Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as fresh-faced cadets Kirk and Spock, will have nothing do to with this series.
The return to the episodic TV format through the modern wonder of the web will be a continuation of the classic timeline which began with the adventures of William Shatner and the late Leonard Nimoy.
As far as naming a new crew, CBS aren’t willing to go that far just yet and said – “You didn’t think we’d show you the cast? Too early for that.” – But that’s okay, we think we’ve had our quota of trek-based excitement for now!
As well as the logo and teaser trailer a new website for Star Trek 2017 also went live yesterday.
