Steve Jobs: Apple has ‘no plans’ to kill the iPod Classic

  • by
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has a habit of sporadically responding to fans emails as and when he can be bothered. At the moment he’s laid down with illness, so presumably has a bit of spare time on his hands – hence his recent response to a worried Apple user about the future of the iPod Classic.

Picking up on rumours that followed the Classic’s no-show during the September 2010 iPod line refresh, the fan’s original email read:

“I’ve heard a LOT of speculation that Apple is looking to kill the iPod Classic because it wasn’t updated on Sept. 1st, and that a lot of people would rather Touch. The iPod Classic is probably the best iPod in the line. PLEASE DON’T KILL IT!!!”

The email garnered a rare but typically blunt response from Jobs, who merely replied: “We have no plans to.” Thus: whilst nothing specific has been decided or declared either way in terms of the Classic’s future in a world where the iPod Touch is creeping up in capacity, we can assume that’s it’s safe for now.
