Decent satellite navigation apps are few and far between for BlackBerry users, especially when compared to the likes of iOS and Android.
Free ones are even more rare, so when we saw that Telmap was offering its latest Navigator app for free, we had to take a look. Telmap’s Navigator has been one of the best voice-guided turn-by-turn satnav apps on the BlackBerry platform for some time now, and one we’ve used with success in the past.
As with the standard procedure, Telmap Navigator can be downloaded from the BlackBerry App World for free. It’ll do TomTom-style directions as well as plenty else, effectively turning your BlackBerry into a full-blown satnav.
Maps are 3D and moving and your guidance is voice guided, which of course can be turned off if you, like us, find it a bit of a pain. Telmap Navigator isn’t just for those with a vehicle either – there’s a dedicated pedestrian mode, which will help you while on foot.
You can punch in a UK business or street address and navigate directly to it with ease, but this app also has a few other tricks up its sleeve to help you choose where to go. Thanks to information from both TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet, you’ll be able to look up the nearest places to eat, drink and stay and check out reviews and recommendations to help you pick the best place.
As is becoming the norm with apps on BlackBerry these days, Telmap Navigator is a ‘connected’ app, linked in to your Facebook, Twitter and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). With BBM users will be able to share their location or where they’re headed with contacts, who can then load up the same directions on their BlackBerry if they have the same app.
The following BlackBerry smartphones will work perfectly with Telmap Navigator: BB9900, BB9810, BB9790, BB9380, BB9360, BB9800, BB9320, BB9300.
If you’re looking for a good free satnav app for your BlackBerry, you won’t do much better than this.
