Yesterday afternoon the speediest sketch comedy The Fast Show returned after a lengthy absence as an online exclusive through the website of lager-maker Foster’s and its Facebook page – Suits you, sir!
The show became popular and incredibly quotable in the mid to late-nineties through the BBC and was penned by Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson with outlandish skits and performed by the pair alongside Mark Williams, John Thomson, Arabella Weir and Caroline Aherne. Many of the original line-up return for the new web-based series which will run at around 7 minutes per episode – meaning the sketches are faster than ever – and returning characters include the inappropriate tailors (ooh!), Ted and his groundkeeper Ralph and babbling Rowley Birkin (who’s always ‘incredibly drunk’). The show’s appeal was so widespread that it appeared in the States and Johnny Depp is a big fan, actually appearing in a special revival episode and worked quotes from the show into the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Popping over to the Foster’s web now you’ll find The Fast Show linkage, leading to a new section of the site dedicated to the program and featuring the very first episode, as well as photos, trailers and behind the scenes features. Alternatively, visiting the Foster’s Facebook page you’ll find a tab on the left which will open an app which quickly delivers The Fast Show through your social experience – so you can also comment with fellow quoters. It’s Brilliant!
