If you were lucky enough to get your order in on Tuesday, by now most Nexus 4 orders should have arrived. Whenever I get a new phone my first thought is always ‘Now what accessories are there for it?’ This article seeks to answer that question. Let’s go!
5. FlexiShield Skin for Google Nexus 4
This flexible silicone Google Nexus 4 case offers all-around protection for the Google Nexus 4, including the back – not just the sides. The case is available in two colours at present – black and clear – although I’m sure we’ll see more varieties in the very near future. The case is much less expensive than the official Google bumper, making it a good choice for anyone that is shopping on a budget.
4. SGP Nexus 4 Steinheil Screen Protector
This screen protector is the best you can get for the Nexus 4. It keeps your screen safe, not just from scrapes and scratches, but also from your hand’s oils. The Steinheil is ultra oleophobic, ensuring that your phone’s display remains fresh and as clean as the day you got it. A great Google Nexus 4 screen protector, but it is fairly expensive – if oiliness isn’t normally an issue for you, a cheaper MFX screen protector might be more alluring.
3. Genuine Nexus 4 Bumper
This genuine bumper is provided by Google themselves, and should help protect the Nexus 4. We’ve had some reports of early users of the phone (including Joshua Topolsky of The Verge) having the glass backing break, and this bumper will do a lot to prevent that. The tough silicone construction of this Google Nexus 4 cover will bear the brunt of any impact, ensuring the phone remains intact for as long as possible.
2. Analogix SlimPort HDMI Adapter
This SlimPort HDMI adapter allows you to mirror your Nexus 4’s display onto a HDTV or monitor, perfect for playing games, watching films or even giving presentations. The adapter takes two inputs – full size HDMI and USB power – ensuring that your Nexus 4 can charge and output video and audio at the same time. Perfect!
1. Google Nexus 4 Wireless Charger
This is definitely the number 1 accessory on my mind; the Google Nexus 4 wireless charger! Unlike other phones like the Galaxy S3, the Nexus 4 is already set up for wireless charging if you have the appropriate accessory, and there’s no need to replace the back or battery. With this accessory you’ll be able to just touch your phone to the stand to charge it – no wires are necessary.
While the official Nexus 4 wireless charging dock isn’t yet available, as the Nexus 4 uses something called the ‘Qi’ wireless charging standard, you can use a third party dock by a different manufacturer. There are currently a few out there right now, made by Energizer, Oregon Scientific and others.
Conclusion
So there we have it – five accessories for your Nexus 4. If the phone sells as well as I think it will, we should have a lot more accessories made for it. Maybe we can revisit the subject in the future as we have more third party accessories. In the meantime, I hope you found the selections useful.
