Toshiba has today unveiled a new breed of laptop, and one it is claiming as a world’s first. The Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D is the world’s first glasses-free 3D laptop.
Sporting a 15.6-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D screen, the Qosmio F750 comes in at £1300 in the UK. The screen is capable of delivering 3D images at a resolution of 1366 x 768, without the need for additional glasses. It’s also Full HD (1080p) and features lenticular technology, meaning it is capable of displaying a 2D image next to a 3D image in separate windows.
It’s certainly a fast laptop, too, thanks to an Intel Core I7 processor, Nvidia GeForce GT 540M mobile graphics card, 6GB DDR3 RAM, Blu-Ray XL Drive, 640GB hard drive, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, HDMI and VGA outputs and high quality Harmon Kardon speakers for a superior audio performance.
As for the main feature of the laptop, 3D, it offers 3D functionality in a number of ways. You can insert a 3D Blu-Ray into the drive on the side and load it right up, or insert a regular DVD or Blu-Ray and the F750 will upscale it to 3D for you, something we thought was pretty neat. You’ll also be able to view any 3D content on YouTube no problem, as well as playing any games that support 3D features.
There’s a HD webcam located centrally above the 3D screen, which is used by the laptop to provide the glasses-free 3D effect. The camera uses facial tracking to keep track of your viewing angle, and adjusts the 3D effect to suit. This results in a much better viewing angle for 3D content on the laptop, and means you won’t have to sit still in order to keep that “sweet spot” for the perfect 3D image.
The Toshiba Qosmio F750 will be available in the UK in August 2011, and will be priced at £1300. 3D unplugged
The Qosmio F750 3D is designed for those looking for the ultimate 3D experience. Like the world’s first glasses-free 3D television – the Toshiba REGZA GL1 – the Qosmio F750 3D uses a special lenticular 3D screen to give users the freedom to experience all the benefits of 3D entertainment, without the restrictions of having to wear 3D glasses. Glasses-free 3D technology adds a truly immersive element, perfect for experiencing 3D in a more natural and comfortable way, particularly for those that may already require prescription glasses. The 39.6cm (15.6″) screen also offers Full HD resolution for clear, vivid images, while a 120Hz refresh rate eliminates blur or ghosting with the fast moving images seen in action films and games.
Glasses-free 3D – how it works
To create a 3D effect without 3D glasses, the left eye needs to see a slightly different perspective to the right eye. The Qosmio F750 3D’s state-of-the-art lenticular screen sends

The glasses-free Qosmio F750 3D offers a unique way for businesses, professionals and designers to present 3D content. New product concepts, architecture plans, medical information or educational tools can be viewed with unparalleled realism and greater depth.
