Twitter adds its own photo service, shuns twitpic

Micro-blogging giant Twitter has announced several big changes to its site, the first of which being an integrated photo upload service, hosted by Twitter themselves.

This news will come as a bit of a blow to the likes of Twitpic, Imageshack and Yfrog, who have until now been the main ways to upload photos to the Twitter site.

Twitter will be rolling out a new photo upload button to both their main website and their mobile apps over the next few weeks. Users will be able to hit the button and attach a photo easily to their tweets, much like you could do using Twitpic for example. Photobucket have partnered with the social media giant to provide the photo uploading and hosting.

Secondly, the search function has been overhauled to give it much more functionality. Photos and videos will be displayed within your search on the site, and Twitter say they have improved the search function so you get better, more relevant results to your search.
