USB Type-C to HDMI Released

  • by

HDMI Licensing, LLC have today announced that they will be releasing a new HDMI alternate cable for USB Type C. This should enable USB Type connections to interface directly with the TV without the need for extra dongles etc.

Type-C has been growing in popularity in mobile and PC circles and this cable will marry itself with HDMI which is the lead display interface across the planet currently with an estimated 290 Million HDMI-Enabled devices expected to ship through 2016.

Coined, HDMI Alt Mode, this will support the full range of HDMI 1.4b features; resolutions up to 4k, ARC, 3D, HDMI Ethernet and CEC to name a few.

The source end will be USB Type-C with HDMI on the connection/display side.  This will solve many issues with connectivity especially with smartphones to TV.

The people behind USB Type-C are also co-ordinating with licensing to try to ensure that consumers will be able to recognise whether Alt Mode is supported on USB Type-C devices.
