Slashing the price of owning a Motorola Xoom in the States by an expected $100, Verizon Wireless will begin selling a 16GB version of the anticipated tablet with rumour suggesting that Europe and the UK will also be in line for a dropped-price half-pint slab of its own.
The Android Honeycomb enabled Motorola Xoom will be released in the UK this week, with a full-fat 32GB version hitting stores for around £499. Some retailers have however dropped the price ahead of the tablet’s release, possibly in response to the reported poor sales for the tablet on the US market.
The 16GB Motorola Xoom through Verizon packs many of the same features as big bro, including 4G LTE hardware and CDMA radio. No word however, regards to whether the 16GB will come WiFi only, just as the 32GB comes.
The cruiserweight tablet looks set to pack some punch and will make the 16GB Motorola Xoom a legit contender to Apple’s own 16GB iPad 2 tablet, both in spec and price. Hopefully, if and when it drops here, Stateside sales will be mirrored and you might even be able to pick up a Xoom more conveniently than a iPad 2!
