Lucky Virgin Media customers in London have been able to test the cable provider’s new super-fast broadband connection. In fact, Virgin Media say that the 1.5Gbps is now the fastest broadband connection in the world.
Currently there is a group of test sites are Old Street which can deliver these speeds, as well as being able to get an upload rate of 150Mbps, which is quite impressive indeed.
The testing involves using the new DOCSIS-2 standard to implement the speeds, which are around 240 times faster than current average broadband connections, and the handy thing is that it can work using the same network infrastructure that currently delivers 100Mbps to customers.
The DOCSIS-2 technology allows Virgin Media’s network to provide a future-proved platform with near infinite capacity, as it works by bonding multiple downstream and upstream channels together which can be used to deliver faster speeds.
