Vivo X1 becomes the world’s thinnest smartphone with audiophile qualities to boot

Many of our readers have probably never heard of the name Vivo before – even we hadn’t until today – but they’re now the proud owners of the world’s thinnest smartphone title. Their new X1 smartphone beats out the likes of the iPhone 5 and Oppo Finder to be the sleekest phone in the world.

The X1 is made by a Chinese company called BBK Electronics, who are also behind the Oppo brand that recently launched a different super slim smartphone. An incredibly svelte 6.55mm profile makes the X1 the world’s thinnest phone, and the makers haven’t sacrificed high-end components in order to make such a slinky phone either.

By the sounds of the things – no pun intended – the X1 is an audiophile’s dream smartphone. It features Cirrus Logic CS4398 digital-analog converter and a CS8422 sample-rate converter which should provide premium audio quality, which in theory should outpace any other smartphone on the market today – even HTC and its Beats Audio technology.

To match such a premium audio set up the Vivo X1 is being sold bundled with a selection of premium headsets, including the Beyerdynamic MMX 71 iE, the AKG K420 and the Sennheiser CX215. All three are top notch, though we have the say the Beyers would be our choice.

Asides from premium audio quality, the X1 also rocks Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, a 1.2GHz dual-core A9 processor, a 4.7-inch qHD display and an 8-megapixel rear camera. Inside there’s 16GB of storage, and up front there’s a 1.3-megapixel camera for video calling.

Unfortunately the world’s thinnest smartphone looks set to only be available in China, with orders from the manufacturer costing 2498 Yuan – roughly £250 or $400.
