Already having snubbed Sony’s upcoming super-smartphone – the Xperia S – it’s now been reported that the UK network Vodafone has also declined to get involved with the latest pair of Samsung releases – the Galaxy Ace 2 and Mini 2 – two new smartphones which are already becoming hotly contested by a number of rival mobile service carriers eager to get our custom, including O2, Three, T-Mobile and Orange all of which got on board from the initial announcement from the Korean tech co.
Vodafone is letting the word out that it had no release day plans to stock either the Samsung Mini 2 which is set to arrive with 3.27” TFT touchscreen, 800MHz dual-core processor and 3-megapixel camera – or its sibling, the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2, with 3.8” 800 x 480 resolution WVGA display with the same 800MHz CPU and 4GB of internal storage. The mobile also ups the camera spec to a respectable 5-megapixel rear-facing shooter with front-facing VGA camera for video calling. Both models will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an upgrade to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon to follow (we covered the specs of boht the Ace 2 and Mini 2 in full detail yesterday).
Samsung’s latest join the aforementioned Sony Xperia S as well as the recently unveiled LG Optimus L3, LG Optimus L5 and LG Optimus L7 as potential crowd-pleasers which Vodafone appears to have no interest in. These recent snubs, which were unforeseen even by Jedi Master Yoda, are strange and mysterious and surely must put Vodafone at some disadvantage in the “man on the street” consumer market. It has been suggested that the mobile carrier will actually stock the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 – a 7” tablet offering – but it will quite possibly be aimed at the corporate end of the market, so a future direction may be set to make the network more business oriented.
