After much rumour and speculation, Samsung has officially confirmed there will be a white Galaxy Nexus smartphone coming to the UK, starting February 13th.
We already spotted some pre-order pages for the glossy white variation of Samsung and Google’s flagship Android smartphone, but it seems the companies have moved the release date back a week. The previous date scheduled was February 6th, though we were correct in predicting that both 16 and 32GB models would be available.
Until now we’ve only had 16GB models available in the UK with the black model, so the option of more storage space is certainly welcome, if a little overdue. Other than the white paintjob and the option of 32GB internal storage, all other specifications remain the same. That means you get the fantastic Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, 5-Megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, plus a speedy Dual-Core 1.2GHz processor and a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD screen.
“After much speculation, we are pleased to announce the availability of the Galaxy Nexus White which follows the great reception the phone has received since it was launched back in November” Simon Stanford of Samsung UK telecoms confirmed earlier today. ”One of the things we at Samsung pride ourselves on is the choice we offer customers, and we’ve enjoyed huge success to date by introducing white variants of our most popular models to our product portfolio.”
Despite being a white version, only the back and sides of the phone’s casing have received the makeover. The front fascia of the phone remains glossy black as with the original black variant, but in our opinion it looks better that way than if the phone were to be completely white.
Samsung hasn’t announced prices yet, though we wouldn’t imagine there would be too much of a premium, if any, for the privilege of owning a white model. With that in mind the 16GB model should cost around £500-£520, though we cannot predict the price of the 32GB phone as such a product hasn’t been sold at all in the UK yet.
