From New York today, WWE and 2K Games has officially announced that it form a multi-year tag team that will see the popular grapple game franchise into a new future after the wrestling and entertainment organisation recently parted ways with struggling publisher THQ after the release of current title WWE ’13.
Confirming that the successful game lineage and titling will continue the WWE revealed that the rumours are true and 2K, the distributor behind the NBA and MLB games, will be up to the challenge of now exclusively publishing WWE ’14 which will arrive as this year’s annual release in Autumn. Japanese developer Yuke’s will once again be in the corner to oversee the game’s creation so there should be very little disruption in the continuity and ‘signature gameplay’ in the next round of the fightin’ franchise.
Chief Operating Officer for 2K Games, David Ismaller spoke of the lucrative and much fought for partnership saying “We look forward to capturing the excitement of WWE and marrying it with the same commitment to authenticity and entertainment that we give to our NBA 2K and MLB 2K franchises.”
WWE’s Consumer Products VP, Casey Collins states confidently “2K’s reputation for outstanding quality and dedication to authenticity are a perfect fit for WWE” adding “This new partnership will ensure that WWE continues to be one of the leading video game brands in the world and we look forward to continuing the franchise with the benefit of their expertise across a variety of platforms.”
Between the WWE and 2K Games we are being promised that WWE ’14 will offer the most authentic WWE experience on game consoles. Suffice to say, your Gadget Helpline bloggers are pretty pleased with the news and are eagerly looking forward to stepping into the ring one more time this Autumn.
