Here’s one for lovers of insanely thin gadgets: the title for world’s thinnest smartphone is about to go to a new contender, and it’s ready to pre-order now.
We’re not talking about the Motorola RAZR at 7.1mm thick, nor the Huawei Ascend P1 at 6.68mm. The new reigning champ comes from China, and it’s called the Oppo Finder. It narrowly beats the Ascend P1 at a svelte 6.65mm thick, and it packs a fair punch inside that slim frame to boot.
The slender case, which features a glossy front and back with a silver trim for the edges, holds a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display. Inside you’ll find a hefty 1.5GHz dual-core processor along with a tidy 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
That memory will come in handy for storing high quality pictures and videos taken using the 8-megapixel rear camera, which will record Full HD 1080p video and features a dual LED flash for shooting in low light. A 1.3-megapixel camera sits atop the large screen for video calling and 720p HD video, and the operating system to power it all is none other than Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich.
Pre-orders are live right now with the first stock expected to ship on July 1st. The handset is priced at 2498 Yuan, which equates to a very reasonable £250 or $393. Considering the high specifications and the very latest Android software, this handset looks like a very attractive prospect indeed.
Unfortunately the Oppo Finder isn’t likely to make it to the UK or US for sale on its own or on contracts, but if you really fancy one you can pre-order through the manufacturer’s website, which provides worldwide shipping.
