According to reports, it would appear that there are a number of unhappy 360 owners who are saying that since updating to the latest dashboard, they have now noticed that when watching videos, the colour appears to be washed out.
Gaming site Eurogamer received a number of emails from frustrated users, so decided to do some of its own tests to try and establish exactly what is happening.
Eurogamer have now been able to confirm that it seems that the latest Metro inspired dashboard, for some reason does force video content to be displayed with a limited range of RGB levels. Basically meaning that videos look washed out and lacks saturation, as shown in the picture below.
Apparently the issue was originally reported to Microsoft during the beta phase of the dashboard roll-out, who responded to the initial concern by saying “Thanks for the feedback! Though we will not be able to incorporate your feedback into this release we will save it for consideration in future releases. Thanks for using the new Xbox Update and please keep up the feedback!”
Microsoft have yet to officially acknowledge the problem, and since reporting the issue during beta testing, it would appear that no action has been taken to try and find a fix – which affects users who use both HDMI and component connections.
We can only make the assumption that since the original feedback that was submitted regarding the problem has now been deleted, Microsoft may be working on a suitable fix for frustrated users.
