Yahoo Sues Facebook Over 10 Alleged Patent Infringements

Yahoo will be seeing Facebook in court after the search engine giant slammed the social network over infringing on copyright patents.

We don’t remember the last time we thought of Yahoo as a buzzing hive of online social activity and the last time we logged into a “group” is probably in the last millennium! But the company is claiming that the current leading friend site has based its success on designs originally laid out by its self and reports suggest it is planning to sue on not just one, but ten different accounts, including messaging, commenting and news feed.

The internet co. pleaded its case: “Yahoo’s patents relate to cutting edge innovations in online products, including in messaging, news feed generation, social commenting, advertising display, preventing click fraud and privacy controls. Facebook’s entire social network model, which allows users to create profiles and connect with, among other things, persons and businesses, is based on Yahoo’s patented social networking technology.”

Let’s not forget that Yahoo itself uses the Facebook apps feature to host some of its own content including Yahoo Music Videos, we have to wonder how this legal situation will affect the friendship.

Facebook has recently introduced a new way to sort your Interests into list for an easy view to the things that matter to you. Check out the Gadget Helpline’s coverage on the new feature – Here.
