Internet heavyweight Yahoo! and ‘Digital Company of the Year’ World Wrestling Entertainment have formed a lucrative tag-team which will allow the WWE Universe to expand on its unstoppable online fandom, bringing a new 30 minute programme to the web every Monday!
The Yahoo! / WWE deal means the launch of a new Sports Entertainment hub featuring a back catalogue of classic and recent events, with action and exclusive streaming content from inside and outside of the ring. The experience is complete with a brand new 30 minute pre-show programme which will be aired before the weekly flagship Monday Night RAW programme as well as before the monthly 3-hour Pay-Per-View events such as annual favourites Summer Slam and Survivor Series.
This will prove a powerful push for Yahoo! as it fights to make its mark as a legitimate entertainment body in an arena where rivals such as Google and Amazon are already flexing their muscles with original programming and content available to download and stream on a regular basis.
The alliance is also another good business venture for WWE which will increase its stranglehold as a leading multimedia and social powerhouse. Having already run wild on Twitter and Facebook with superstars such as The Rock, John Cena and CM Punk commanding legions of followers, fans the world over (including us grapple-heads in the UK) will soon be able to enjoy more programming online and through our gadgets when the first content is launched later in 2013.
