YouTube is celebrating the 57th anniversary of cassette-based video recording (yeah, 57… that well known celebration) by adding a cool and retro VHS button to its videos online that will allow users to watch videos on the site with classic VHS clarity.
A VHS button has been added to videos on YouTube, and pressing this on your favourite videos will give the playback quality the distinct wear and look of a mid-90s video recording. Clicking the button will add a filter onto the video you are watching, giving that distorted and nostalgic feel to select videos.
So you can click online and load up the latest Justin Bieber video and vintage it up so it looks like a video from before he was born… or not!
The feature is only available on selected videos, where you’ll find a VHS button in the bottom right of the player. Simply click the button to turn back the clock and enjoy the 80s/90s VHS experience, complete with the top to bottom rolling picture effect.
You can check out our Gadget Helpline video reviews (and a few other cool features) but its possibly not the best way to view the stunning screen quality of the Sony Xperia Z!
Don’t forget to rewind the tape afterwards.
