Rumours emerged in June that the ZombiU outbreak could soon reach next gen consoles and PC as Ubisoft was planning an adaptation beyond its original Wii U platform. Now those rumours have been confirmed as true and the game will be released as soon as August the 18th bearing the title Zombi.
Dropping the U from one-time exclusive ZombiU distances French publisher Ubisoft even further from former bedfellow Nintendo and also will help distinguish it from the Wii U version which uniquely utilised the console’s GamePad control system. The undead bashing action was solely dependent on this method and was included in the Wii U starter bundles to showcase the gimmick when it was new back in 2012.
So how will it differ on Xbox One, PS4 and PC – and what will remain the same?
The short time span between Zombi being a rumour and it being released suggests the game will be a direct port but the way it’s played will of course differ greatly. Using the Wii U GamePad offered an always ready second screen and its touch-based interactivity allowed players to literally get hands on with much of the experience. The controls could be used for a wide range of uses including being used as a scanning device and to enter pin-codes or solve puzzles on terminals to access other areas of the ZombiU game. After such an immersive experience a traditional controller seems a bit basic, doesn’t it?
The official Ubisoft blog addresses the questions some players may have: “We maintain a minimal HUD as much as possible. It disappears when not required, giving the game a very lonely feeling. If you have surround sound, the awesome sound mix from the original still stands and greatly helps immersion. As much as possible, we’ve tried to keep those key elements.”
