Microsoft Re-branding Windows Phone Marketplace for Windows Phone 8

With the release of Windows 8 OS and Windows Phone 8 mobile OS just a few months away, it looks like Microsoft are changing the name of the Windows Phone Marketplace to keep the apps and downloads in line with the Windows Phone branding.

Microsoft will be re-branding the Windows Phone Marketplace as the Windows Phone Store. The change has been noticed in the Windows Phone Dev Centre that Microsoft has put out to developers for the forthcoming Phone OS.

Microsoft is working hard to re-brand and simplify the Windows OS and Windows Phone brands into one steady range of devices, whilst still keeping it easy to differentiate between the two services.

The Windows 8 PC OS will also include a Windows Store for applications for the computer software and other downloads.

In the past year we have seen Google rename the Android Marketplace to Google Play so they can bring the branding of all Google products into one place, and now it seems Microsoft is also taking on this strategy.

No official announcement has been made by Microsoft but we can expect the changes to be made for the release of Windows 8 OS and Windows Phone 8.
