As you may know, SEGA got whacked late last week – becoming the latest high-profile hit when the online SEGA Pass service was knocked out following an intrusion by hackers who were able to expose personal information of over a million account holders within Europe and US.
However not on the scale of the attacks on Sony’s Playstation Network and without any theft of financial or credit card information – address, password and date of birth details were left unprotected and the number of those affected are now thought to be above 1.29-million.
Fingers were immediately pointed at online mischief-makers Lulz Security – “the world’s leaders in high-quality entertainment at your expense”.
Uncharacteristically the hacker group were not boastful or taunting in wake of the SEGA’s difficulties and no “calling card” has been reported in the hack – which is customary in LulzSec’s “comedic styling”. Only now have the group spoken out – claiming they actually had nothing to do with this attack and, unlike the distain they feel against Sony, LulzSec are actually avid-fans of SEGA – offering their own unique skills to help deliver vengeance against those who downed the Japan-based gaming Corp.
@LulzSec tweets ““@Sega – contact us. We want to help you destroy the hackers that attacked you. We love the Dreamcast, these people are going down”.
These are the guys who crippled the CIA and FBI-backed security group InfraGard. It’s an offer worth SEGA’s consideration in this current battle of one-upmanship amongst the hackers intent on toppling the world’s top tech companies.
