Leaked screenshots show that Skype will be deeply integrated into webOS 2.2, the next version of software to be used on devices like the HP Pre 3, Veer and TouchPad.
German webOS experts webOS-blog.de have got their hands on some screenshots of the OS that indicate Skype messaging, contacts and voice calling will heavily feature on future HP mobile phones and tablets.
Skype will be fully integrated at a system level in webOS 2.2, meaning that options for Skype will appear in major parts of the software such as Settings and Calls. Users will be able to choose whether to make calls with the native phone app or via Skype using a data connection, therefore meaning free Skype calls on webOS 2.2 devices!
Skype video and audio calling can also be initiated through both contacts and justType apps which are built into the phone’s menu.
We’ll also see Skype integrated into the Messaging app on webOS 2.2 devices. For instance, when a user chooses to create a new message, they will be given the choice of SMS, MMS, Email or Skype Message.
Various other features are noted, such as Skype calls working via both 3G and Wi-Fi, and the ability to choose whether you’d like to broadcast your image via front-facing camera when making or accepting a Skype call.
Skype integration makes webOS 2.2 look very interesting indeed. With Apple integrating Twitter into iOS 5, we have to wonder which major Social tool or program Google will integrate into the next version of Android!
