Sales figures also show that the fourth gen consoles have vastly outsold that of their predecessors, the PS3 and Xbox 360, with US sales tracking company NPD saying the sales of the fourth gen consoles are “almost 80 per cent higher than the combined total of PS3 and Xbox 360 sales”.
No doubt the popularity of the Xbox One grew when they ditched the Kinect and dropped the price. Also after having updated the console and therefore improving and adding to its content, features and stability considerably.

The increase in quality, sought after games will also have a part to play in the upsurge in demand; with Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Xbox marketing, Mike Nichols saying “Response to the holiday line-up of games on Xbox One was incredible, with Xbox One fans buying more games in November in the US than any other gen eight platform and enjoying over 357 million hours of gameplay globally.”
Since release back in November 2013, the battle seemed to have been won by Sony with them pipping Microsoft to the best sellers post time and time again, so it was assumed they’d won over all. But it’s the old saying that seems to have rung true– you may have won the battle but you won’t win the war.
