The Samsung Galaxy range of smartphones has just about every variation on an Android smartphone that you could wish for, catering for almost everyone. The one type of phone we could see missing was a durable “tough” phone, but now Samsung have filled that gap with the new Galaxy Xcover.
Samsung’s rugged Galaxy Xcover smartphone boasts IP67 certification, meaning it’s all kinds of tough – it aint gona stand for any nonsense.
The Android 2.3 powered smartphone will withstand any amount of dust, dirt and mud that you throw at it, thanks to a fully sealed tough case. It will also withstand up to 30 minutes in up to one metre of water without drowning – impressive. The 3.65-inch screen is protected by tempered glass, meaning it will be fully scratch and dustproof.
Technical specifications haven’t yet been fully announced, but we do know that the Xcover runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), has a 3.65-inch LCD screen, 3.2-megapixel camera plus Wi-Fi and HSDPA mobile connectivity.
The Galaxy Xcover has so far only broken cover (pun unintended) in Germany, so we’re going to go right ahead and assume it will be sold across Europe. No pricing details have emerged just yet, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear it.
