Google has just announced its Android platform SDK has given the all-go for developers eager to get tuned in to the latest evolution for the Google TV service – the inevitable leap to mobile gadgets.
Google TV is an Internet Portal Television service provided by the California co. in partnership with Intel, Logitech and Sony – it was launched in October of last year.
As recently speculated, a move to Android 3.1 Honeycomb for tablets would surely come along soon. With much of the originally predicted potential for the service unmet, both Logitech and Sony recently cut prices on their Google TV hosting wares showing the decline of the IPTV service as a strong “living room” choice for telly viewers.
We suggested in an earlier article that a tablet-based service would be more feasible, and Google are today beginning the opening stages of that movement, with an Android Software Developers Kit expanding to not only include TV sets, but also those tablets, mobiles and portable gadgets.
Giving developers a chance to contribute will improve the much needed growth of the Google TV platform and Google’s Product Manager Ambarish Kenghe says “While the number of apps available on TV will initially be small, we expect that through this early release of the add-on you’ll be able to bring optimized TV apps into the ecosystem more quickly.”
