That’s right you read the headline correctly. Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s will become every iPad, iPod or iPhone user’s favourite supermarket soon as they have announced that they are to fit iDevice docks into new trolleys.
The tech trolleys will be tested out at one exclusive store in London and will see the trolleys capable of docking iDevices, charging batteries and allowing shoppers to view their devices while shopping.
Quite why anyone would want to use an iPad in a supermarket is beyond us. But Sainbury’s and the company behind the blinged-up trolleys seem genuinely excited by the prospect.
They will be in use at the West London supermarket on Cromwell Road – the supermarket developed the idea with Sky and is meant to be a way to promote it’s revamped Sky Go tv on demand service.
“We strive to make our customers’ lives simpler, which is why we’re looking at these new trolleys,” Brett Hart, Sainsbury’s trolley buyer told the Telegraph.
The trolleys have also been fitted with sensors to alert those distracted by the sport when they’re heading for another trolley or a pile of baked beans cans.
“Being able to create a gadget that is practical yet innovative is often a challenge but I think with the trolley we’ve cracked it,” said Ian Burgess of Setwo Designs, the company behind the trolley.
