You may recall the ‘budget-friendly’ AndyPad, aimed at the youth market and invented by a Norwich-based company, which we covered a few months ago and if the prospect of a low-priced but reasonable spec tablet caught your eye (or you missed out on an HP TouchPad bargain), you’ll be delighted to know that the slab is now available to buy.
The AndyPad by far is not the best tablet out there. It resembles a Nintendo toy and follows the old ‘you get what you pay for’ rule. But that said it does come with some pretty respectable features. For example, the 7” AndyPad runs on a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, that’s pretty skippy. It also comes in a choice of 8GB or 16GB of RAM with support for MicroUSB and MicroSD for that extra storage.
For connectivity there’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with a HDMI port for 1080p HD output. The Android 2.2 Honeycomb operating software of choice comes with social apps such as Facebook and Twitter preloaded.
The lowest spec AndyPad, as mentioned, comes with 8GB RAM and 800×480 screen display. This model costs £129, not as cheap as the £89 HP TouchPad, but still a nice price for a generously spec’d ‘casual’ tablet. Upping the memory to 16GB will cost only £179 and the screen display quality benefits from a 1024×600 resolution.
