Sony Tablet S hits stores today – without 3G at the same price as iPad 2

Sony’s Tablet S hits the high street from today. However, the anticipated tablet, which was backed by a series of artistically shot mini-movies, won’t give Apple’s iPad 2 much of a run for its money.  In fact, the two gadgets are priced identically.

UK tech retailers PC World and Currys are offering the lightweight 16GB version on Sony’s anticipated Android-based tablet at £399 and the full-fat 32GB version at £479 – the same as the Apple slab with respective RAM.

We’ve only seen a little of what the Sony Tablet S really has on offer but it’s the same curvy number seen previously in the imaginative videos from Sony and it’ll be riding in on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU and – highly important – with a Playstation certification, and potential for a vast library of games.

With this non-competitive pricing, and the omission of 3G in these early release Sony Tablet S models, we’re not sold. And we’d imagine most tablet-buyers would still head toward that familiar Apple logo and grab the iPad 2.

That said, the Sony Tablet S is available now!
