If you managed to get your hands on one of the massively reduced HP TouchPads, you may be one of many who are waiting patiently to get a working Android port over to the WebOS device; if that’s the case, then you’ll be interested to know that the CyanogenMod team have mamanged to get a step further in this quest.
The team have just posted another video, after previously showing that they managed to actually get Android to work on the tablet, then interact with the touchscreen, and now they have managed to get Wi-Fi up and running, along with basic audio support and getting the Android Market to work (albeit limited support) on the TouchPad as well.
As you may already know, CyanogenMod 7 is a customer Android distribution which is based on Google’s source code for Android 2.3, although it includes some tweaks for tablet devices. Android Honeycomb won’t be making an apperance on the TouchPad as the source code has not been released, instead though, the team are waiting for Google to release the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, as it’s designed to work on both smartphones and tablets.
If you’re interested in seeing the latest progress made on the Android port, make sure you check out the video from the CyanogenMod team detailing and demonstrating the newly added features.
The team haven’t got any plans to release the port at the moment, although as soon as they are happy enough they have a more functional stable version, it will then be released to the masses.
