Apple to Announce iPhone 5 at Media Event on October 4th

Open your calendar app, iPhone fans, and set an event for Tuesday October 4th. On this day Apple will host a Media Event to announce the iPhone 5 to the world.

Every year around this time Apple will host a huge media event where they will announce the next iPhone, and this year the event falls on a Tuesday, October 4th. Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook will be taking to the stage to announce the iPhone 5, and surprisingly Steve Jobs is said to not be playing a part at all – for the first time since Apple launched the very first iPhone.

AllthingsD quotes a source that is very familiar with Apple’s plans, saying that Apple plan to announce the phone on October 4th, and start selling it worldwide within a few weeks of the announcement. This supports the October 15th rumour we heard from France Telecom Stephane Richard.

With former CEO Steve Jobs stepping down, the iPhone 5 announcement will be Tim Cook’s first chance to announce a major product and show the world how he intends to go forward with Apple, proving that Apple isn’t just Steve Jobs.

The source also says that Cook will receive help from other head honchos at Apple throughout the presentation, namely Phil Schiller (Marketing Head), Scott Forstall (Head of iOS development) and Eddy Cue, who is now Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services. Eddy Cue will likely be explaining iCloud and how it will work with the iPhone 5 and iOS 5.

While we thought Jobs would obviously be making an appearance at the event, we think it would be a smart move for Tim Cook to play host and show he’s the boss, despite how happy a Jobs appearance would make the fanboys.
