Rovio has confirmed a new Angry Bird will be landing on the hugely popular mobile game this Halloween. Also stating that, yes – there is an Angry Birds movie on the way!
It’s been teased on the Angry Birds Facebook Page and across the internet that a brand new bird will be coming soon, with a sprite of the new chick on the block mostly obscured – apart from its orange rear and feathered tail. However, we’re not sure which version the little plucker will pop up on. Presumably spin-off Seasons will play host to the new character, which already has a Halloween themed level – but other rumours hint that an updated trick or treat mode will also be unveiled complete with popping pumpkins in place of the usual porkers.
Speaking at the Web 2.0 event, North American General Manager for Angry Birds, Andrew Stalbow, talked of the franchise’s growth from mobile puzzler to merchandise range to the future animated movie, which is suggested to involve Executive Producer of several Marvel movies – and former Marvel Chairman David Maisel.
Angry Birds recently pulled 350-million downloads across its platforms, which include Android and Apple OS software on smartphones, tablets and a version optimised for Google Chrome. Stalbow states that on average 30-million active users fling the colourful feathered folk on a daily basis in the gaming app and that over 300-million minutes of play are recorded worldwide every single day.
[UPDATE – 21/11/11]
A video has popped up online, with Rovio revealing the new Angry Birds Seasons update now titled “Ham’O’Ween” and showing the new bird in flight! The animated feature sets the story for the upcoming update.
