The popular AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage features of iOS 5 will be coming to the Macbook and iMac with OS X Lion, say 9to5mac.
AirPlay Mirroring is a new feature which currently works on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, allowing the user to replicate the screen of their iDevice on a big screen HDTV using an Apple TV box. This allows the playback of movies, viewing of photos and even playing games (some in Full HD 1080p quality).
9to5mac cites sources familiar with Apple’s plans, who have confirmed that the Cupertino Company will be baking in both AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage into OS X Lion in the very near future.
iMessage is again a new feature, and one that was introduced when iOS 5 was released last month. The service is Apple’s answer to BBM – a proprietary instant messaging service that allows users to send messages between iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads using a 3G or WiFi data connection.
Bringing this feature to Mac would make sense, as Apple has already ported across their Video Chat program Facetime, which currently allows the user to make video calls between Mac, iPhone 4, 4S, iPod Touch (4G) and iPad 2.
9to5mac also reports that AirPlay video streaming will be integrated into QuickTime X with Mac OS X Lion desktops and notebooks.
