It would seem that Adobe has decided that the company will put an end to developing Flash for mobile platforms.
This is according to a report from Jason Perlow from ZDNet, who says that he expects Adobe to announce that the company will instead focus their developing efforts on HTML5 for mobile devices instead.
Although Adobe has yet to make it official, below is what the forthcoming announcement it thought to say:
“Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.”
This announcement along with a talk from Abode about their focus on HTML5 is expected to happen in the next day or so, according to Jason.
I’m sure you’ll remember over recent years how Apple refused to use Flash in any of their products, and believed that HTML5 was the way forward. Yet Adobe said that Steve Jobs dismissing Flash was simply “a smokescreen” – No doubt Steve is having the last laugh now.
