The Imperial War Museum have started up a web campaign on this Remembrance Day (11/11) to seek out and share photos and experiences with social web users ahead of First World War Centenary in 2014.
A website is now live, appealing for the ‘Faces of the First World War’. With links to the Flikr-based photo program on Facebook, Twitter and via Email the project aims to make the important historical event more documented than ever before, also providing a valuable educational resource through the popular social networks of which we dedicate so much of our time. Signing up on Facebook involves accepting to connect to an app that lets you share your photos and comment with others. With Twitter you accept to an automated tweet which declares that you have chosen to remember, along with your unique number in amongst the currently thousands who have gotten involved since day one.
Signing up also means your name and number will be projected to a centennial wall illumination at the Imperial War Museum in London in 2014.
A countdown on the First World War Centennial web site counts the signees, and lists names of those who have remembered at the bottom of the page. Spare a minute today of all days to help the Faces of the First World War project and be one of the first to sign up to this – it costs nothing to remember.
