Alongside a new device for the Bold family of smartphones, Research in Motion has announced a new member in the Curve range.
The All-Touch Curve 9380 is the first smartphone in the range to ditch the familiar BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard and put a large touchscreen as the centrepiece.
Like the Bold 9790, we’ve seen this All-Touch smartphone a few times before. It’s leaked in pictures online and RIM themselves have even leaked the existence of the phone, perhaps on purpose on their developer blog.
The Curve 9380’s touchscreen is 3.2-inches in size, and is of a high resolution quality. On the back of the phone there is a 5-Megapixel with flash, which is capable of video recording in a decent quality (RIM hasn’t made clear whether the phone will do HD video recording yet).
As with the latest bevy of smartphones from RIM of late, BlackBerry OS 7 will be the latest software running the show on this phone. That means access to BBM Music, the latest in Social Feeds, Facebook and Instant Messaging on the go with the BlackBerry Messenger app.
RIM are making a real go of NFC (Near Field Communications) tech with their latest range of smartphones, so it’s no real surprise to learn that there will be an NFC chip sitting inside this new Curve smartphone. That means wireless connectivity with other smartphones that use the NFC chip, along with wireless payment systems and more.
We’ve just learnt that the Bold 9790 won’t be making it in time for Christmas in the UK, but if you’re more of a touchscreen fan than a QWERTY person, you’ll be pleased to know that the All-Touch Curve 9380 will be out in time for Christmas.
