There’s very interesting and exciting Nokia news coming from France this morning (yes, from France), thanks to Paul Amsellem, head of the company’s Gallic outpost.
In a recent interview with Parisian daily Les Echos, Amsellem has described Nokia’s plans to regain some of the market share it’s lost within France, explaining that Nokia is targeting the 60 percent of French users who currently don’t use a smartphone.
More interesting, however, is what the Amsellem had to say about Nokia’s plans for future releases. According to the Exec, Microsoft have full plans to unveil a new Windows 8 equipped tablet by June 2012. Unfortunately that’s about all he had to say on the subject, but it’s certainly enough of a tease to get our hearts racing and want to find out more already.
Amsellem’s comments on the Lumia 800, which hit French stores yesterday, are equally interesting. He has been comparing the handset to a BMW 5 series – the chief went on to say that Nokia “will soon have a full range with a 7 Series and 3 Series”
Nokia’s chief didn’t go into any further detail on the Windows Phone range, though his analogy seems fairly obvious. Of course, it remains to be seen when and if the company will expand upon its Lumia line, though we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes on it.
So what would we be looking at is the Lumia 710 which is comparable to the BMW 3 series, the Lumia 800 is the BMW 5 series, but what is going to be the 7 series? It will have to be an amazing handset to live up to the comparison with one of BMW’s premier vehicles.
There has recently been rumour of a handset dubbed the Nokia 900. We’ve posted about it before, after finding a leaked document for the phone appearing online. The specs on the sheet would certainly make it a flagship handset for the range, with NFC tech, 8-megapixel Zeiss camera and a larger 4.3-inch touchscreen.
