Samsung could be set to start knocking out quad-core processors for February’s Galaxy SII follow-up, imaginatively titled the Galaxy S III.
The Samsung Galaxy S III should be ready to be unveiled at next year’s Mobile World Conference and the chipset in question would be none other than the 1.5GHz Exynos 4412 ARM Cortex A9 – the four-horse powered engine which is made possible by some crucial tweaks to the Linux Kernel in the next generation of Samsung’s market leading mobile. This will mean that the World’s Most Powerful Smartphone is going to get even more powerful in 2012.
Contender HTC has big plans for the Four Cees too, with Nvidia onboard to supply the Tegra 3 Kal-El chipset for the HTC Edge; impressive, but Samsung’s GS III could be the Kryptonite to HTC’s quad-core offering.
Specifications revealed in a recent photo from Phandroid suggest the next in line to the Samsung throne will, of course, run Google’s Android OS (presumably Ice Cream Sandwich), and in addition to the awesome powerful new Exnos CPU (quoted as only Dual-Core in the leaked document) also comes with a staggering 2GB of included RAM, Super AMOLED HD display measuring in at 4.6” and a backlit 12-megapixel camera – if rumours are to be believed.
Before Samsung launches the Galaxy S III, it may wish to take a look at its current charge, the Galaxy Nexus, currently struggling with problems with the handset’s volume. The Gadget Helpline is following this story and our readers can keep up with the latest in our article here.
