After appearing in a very Christmassy video last week, Acer has made its latest Android tablet official; say hello to the new Acer Iconia A200.
The new A200 joins Acer’s current lineup of Iconia tablets including the A100 and A500, and boasts some decent specifications as well as a promised update to the holy grail of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich.
A 10.1-inch screen is the centrepiece with Acer’s new A200 tab, providing a crisp and clear resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Under the hood there is a Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual-Core processor clocked at 1GHz with 1GB of RAM to back it up.
With the A500 leading Acer’s Android Tablet range, the A200 is missing a few of the premium specs in order to keep the price point down. It has a decent 2-megapixel front facing camera for video calling, but unfortunately there is no rear camera for taking pictures or capturing video.
The A200 will have Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) installed from the get-go, but Acer has made a big promise and ensured customers that it won’t be long before the tab gets upgraded to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.
Acer will be shipping the A200 in Titanium Gray or Metallic Red to a select few countries as of now, with more destinations to be added over the coming weeks and months. The company has also promised that the Ice Cream Sandwich update will be available to A200 owners worldwide in January of next year.
Additional software will be pre-installed on the A200 to give users that little bit extra, including Acer’s own Acer Ring software. Acer Ring helps users to multitask, offering shortcuts to popular apps such as Google Maps and adding functions such as Screenshot to a simple user interface.
We’re still waiting to find out the official UK/EU price and release date, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
