You may need an actual time machine to go back far enough to remember when Facebook promised its innovative Timeline feature which would replace our standard plain social profiles to provide our friends (and potential stalkers) with a unique look into our history. It’s been a long time since September’s announcement and unless you cheated and tweaked the developer’s settings on your profile, you’ll still have the same old profile you’ve had for a number of years. But if you’re a lucky resident of New Zealand, your Facebook life could be changing as we speak!
Facebook reports “Starting today, we are making Timeline more widely available as we measure speed and other types of performance. We’ll begin by making it available to people in New Zealand and then roll it out more broadly in the near future.”
Starting at birth up to our most recent status update or link shared funny cat video our Facebook Timeline reveals a selection of our events, photos and feelings from last week, last month, last year or even the very first day of our Facebook profile’s existence. In addition to all this, with the help of the little plus icon, which runs down the middle of the newly presented profile page, it’s possible to add life events and photos from your date of birth up until the date you joined Facebook and beyond. Yes, there was life before Facebook – believe it or not!
Other features include tagging of people and places at certain points in our life, making Facebook all the more social, sharing memories with our pals. In addition to the Timeline itself, you’ll be able to add a huge screen spanning ‘Cover’ image. In addition to the regular default shot which appears smaller, this allows you to represent yourself on the social web with a generously sized landscape shot. It adds a nice personal touch and a bit more colour to previously quite bland profile pages.
It’s thought that Facebook has decided to start delivering the Timeline in limited supply and earlier than planned in response to many quick fix guides such as the Gadget Helpline’s own feature, which can be read – Here.
