HTC One X: Production Delay at Qualcomm May Cost New Quad-Core Flagship it’s April 5th U.S Shipping Date

Reports coming in this weekend suggest that the April 5th release date for HTC’s Quad-Core model mobile, the One X, in the USA, could be delayed due to a production hold-up with chip-maker Qualcomm and it’s manufacturing partner TSMC.

Production of the Qualcomm S4 processor hardware used in the Taiwanese co.’s highly-anticipated new flagship smartphone, set to support the 4G network currently rolling out in the States, was stopped three weeks ago with intention of changing the production process. This was a week prior to the HTC One X’s Mobile World Congress debut outing – far too late to slow the fast moving Quad-Core train from a-coming and making an impression on all of us at the Barcelona event. Production on the chip tech is said to resume soon, but there’s no indication as to when, meaning the future of the driving force of the One brand could be uncertain, for the U.S at least.

A number of the Qualcomm S4 chips have already been manufactured since the beginning of 2012, so the HTC One X may arrive on time or, appear at a limited stock when it arrives in April. At worst for the U.S, the release could be pushed right back. As HTC doesn’t have to worry about using 4G LTE radios in models headed for the UK, it can use Nvidia’s Tegra 3 Quad-Core processor instead. This could mean that the UK stockists such as The Carphone Warehouse and networks Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Three could be actually be ahead of our American friends, after announcing the gadget to be “Coming Soon” through their respective online outlets. The delay will also not affect Canada, where 4G is also not yet the new standard, the version of the HTC One X released will be based on the Qualcomm S3 chip.

It was Amazon that revealed the HTC One X’s release date firstly, and the smartphone is said to cost upwards to the £500 mark, but there’s plenty for your buck with a 1.5GHz Quad-Core processor running things, a 4.7” Super AMOLED LCD HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, a sensitive 8-megapixel camera and a new version 4.0 of HTC’s Sense user interface complimenting the newest Android OS – also 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich. The former HTC Edge also features some Beats Audio flavour for the music lovers in the form of Beats Audio software for fine-tuning your listening preferences.
