Apple has reportedly bought a small Italian music-editing software company call Redmatica, nothing has been announced but the deal is sure to see their own music applications improve from the acquisition.

News of the takeover was reported by Italian blog Fanpage after they found evidence of the acquisition in a document from the Italian communication regulator AGCOM.

Apple has yet to make any formal announcement and Redmatica are remaining tight-lipped about the acquisition – the Italian company specialises in building and selling music-editing software for Logic Pro.

The company has four products, including tools for sampling, editing and library management, all of which are designed to work with Mac OS X and Apple’s Logic Pro.

Over the course of the last few years Apple has decided to bring numerous plugins, that were once third party, in as part of the native Logic application.

If you’re not familiar with Logic Pro, it’s the world’s leading music production software, and if you make music you’ll know the most annoying thing is when it crashes due to numerous third party software plugins.

With this acquisition they can bundle Redmatica’s class-leading sample plugins with the software which should improve stability for all users.

Since Logic was bought out by Apple, the software has seen stiff competition from Ableton Live, Cubase and Pro-Tools – and it is thought that this acquisition could be Apple trying to increase its marketshare.

Apple, of course, has a multitude of music software offerings; from their GarageBand for casual music makers to the professional-quality digital audio workstation Logic Pro.

This isn’t the first time Apple has splashed the cash to improve their musical portfolio; in 2000 they bought SoundJam Mp, the predecessor to iTunes. In 2002, Apple bought Emagic who make Logic, and in 2009 they purchased streaming service LaLa.com

Apple CEO Tim Cook didn’t mention the acquisition when he spoke at Wall Street Journal’s D10 conference last night, but when the discussion talked about what Apple has planned for the future he said Apple is “going to introduce some great stuff. I think you’re going to love it”.
